Pennsylvania Turfgrass
Research, Inc. (PTRI) is a volunteer directed group
founded by the Pennsylvania Turfgrass Council (PTC).
Since 1955, the PTC has provided more than $2,000,000 to
improve the turfgrass industry through support of
research and education at Penn State University. Penn
State’s Center for Turfgrass Science is recognized as a
national leader in the field and is a vital local
resource for everyone who values attractive and well
maintained turfgrass.
The Center for Turfgrass Science at Penn State now seeks
to expand: to develop new techniques and products to
advance the industry, to train the next generation of
turfgrass managers, and to improve turfgrass to benefit
golfers and other athletic users throughout the region.
Yet traditional sources of funds – government support
and PTC membership, tradeshow and golf outing income –
must be supplemented to insure the future development of
better turfgrass and the personnel and products needed
for all of us to enjoy it. PTRI’s tax-exempt status as a
501.c.3 organization, means it can accept your
tax-deductible contributions to support this work.
PTRI is conducting the ”Growing the Game” campaign
with a goal to raise $1,000,000 over five-years. Over
the long-term, contributions will enable PTRI to
establish a multi-million dollar endowment that will
provide a stable, reliable source of income to support
the Center for Turfgrass Science for expanded turfgrass
research and scholarship support.
To accomplish this, leading volunteers from PTRI will
seek annual support from country clubs, businesses, and
individuals associated with the industry; alumni of the
Penn State program; and from golfers and other people
who enjoy lawns, athletic fields and environmentally
friendly landscapes.
